In 2004, our club affiliated with the Vintage Thunderbird Club International (VTCI) and also incorporated as a Kansas Corporation.
The Mid-Kansas Vintage Thunderbird Club was formed at Wichita in 1992 as a chapter of Heartland Vintage Thunderbird Club of America.
As a chapter of VTCI, our club recognizes ALL Thunderbirds and serves as headquarters for Thunderbird lovers in the Wichita and Mid-Kansas
area. Take a look at some of our carsOur club participates in VTCI events around the country.
In 2004, several of our Thunderbirds traveled to the VTCI International Convention at Hannibal, Missouri. In 2005, we traveled to
Indianapolis, Indiana for the VTCI Regional Convention, which included a lap around the Indianapolis Speedway with well over 100
other Thunderbirds. Some of our members attended the VTCI Regional Convention in Overland Park in 2006, and our club hosted the
2008 North Central Regional Convention in Wichita. Some of our members also attended the 2008 International Convention at
Colorado Springs; the 2009 SW Regional at Oklahoma City, the 2009 VTCI International at Coshocton, Ohio and the 2010 Regional
at Fort Worth, Texas. That one allowed us to drive our cars on the NASCAR track!
The 2010 VTCI International at Chicago was awesome. The Mid-Kansas Vintage Thunderbird club has always participated in local car shows, but in calendar year 2000 the club took on a new mission.
Our club and the Wichita Classic Thunderbird Club joined forces to produce a special Thunderbird Show and give all profits of the show to
Make-A-Wish of Kansas, Inc.
Named The Dream Car Show, it became an annual event. Through 2010 our show provided over $106,000 to Make-A-Wish of Kansas and we
are honored to be the largest car club contributor to that organization.
The club enjoys the challenge and energy generated by constant plans for the next Dream Car Show and is currently pondering additional
fund raising ventures. The club enjoys a diversity of members from many professions.
It is currently comprised of 38 family memberships, with 47 Thunderbirds. Our flock of Birds contains one of almost every body style offered.
Some of our Thunderbirds are trophy winners at the national level, some are in the process of getting there, but the majority of our
Birds are daily drivers.
We also have a collection of Thunderbird experts who share their experiences with each other, and with spectators at our car shows regarding
restoration, repairs, parts, details, and technical advice for these beautiful, nostalgic pieces of rolling sculpture.
Our club publishes a monthly newsletter, and we enjoy monthly business/dinner meetings at a variety of restaurants.
In the summer these often take the form of picnics and cookouts. We also take Thunderbird road trips or cruises through scenic parts of Kansas. In the cooler months you will find us visiting local museums,
dinner theater, shows and melodramas.
Wholesome, family type social activities involving spouses and children are just one of the goals of our club. Our club has a great working relationship with neighboring chapters of VTCI and with the Wichita Classic Thunderbird Club, Inc., which
recognizes the 1955, 1956, and 1957 Thunderbirds exclusively. We believe that working in cooperation with the “Classic Club”
on special occasions has strengthened both clubs and has increased the visibility of the Vintage and Classic Ford Thunderbird
in the community. To join us and to enjoy the ambience created by these beautiful Thunderbirds costs only $20 per year and that cost is
prorated for new members.
